Train to Machu Picchu
A fully organized tour in which you will visit Machu Picchu. There is a tour of one day and a tour of two days in which you will overnight in Aguas Calientes. It includes private transportation between Cusco and Ollantaytambo, train tickets between Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes, a guided tour and the entrance tickets.
Machu Picchu is located 130 kilometers northwest of the city of Cusco on an altitude of 2.400 meters. Due to the difficult geography around that area, there is no direct access by road. The main access is granted by train (4 hours from Cusco and 2 hours from Ollantaytambo). The citadel is nestled up in the steep mountains with hillslopes that are covered with tropical forests. The scenery clearly differs from the highland landscapes of the region.
It is estimated that Mach Picchu was built in the fifteenth century during the reign of the Inca Pachacutec, most likely it had functions as an important spiritual site and as a winter residence of the Inca nobility. The Technological development, the architectural beauty, the stunning landscape as well as the historical and spiritual significance of the citadel are incomparable. These characteristics have led to that it’s been declared as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World and it’s one of the most desirable tourist destinations in the world.
