Tour description

Day 1:  Tour Uros Floating Islands and homestay on Amantani Island

You will be picked up from your hotel, or the bus station of Puno and go the harbor of Puno. Here we take a motor boat and go to the Floating islands of Uros. Once there you will have the opportunity to walk around on these very special reed islands and interact with the native who inhabit these islands. For a small fee you can make a ride on a handmade reed boat.

Then you continue by boat to Amantani Island. Here you will spend the rest of the day and the night. A group of native families will meet you on arrival and take you to their homes. Later in the afternoon after lunch, you can walk to the highest point of the island called Pachatata. From here you have an amazing view over the island and Lake Titicaca. The sunset viewed from here is something to remember forever.

Returning to your local family, you will have dinner with them. After dinner you are invited to a local party with a local band at the main folklore saloon. After the party you return to your homestay to sleep.

Day 2:  Taquile Island and return to Puno

After your breakfast it is time to say goodbye to your local family. By boat you will go to Taquile Island which is full with ancient agricultural terraces. Upon arrival you will walk on a narrow path to the village of the island, meanwhile enjoying impressive views over Lake Titicaca and Amantani Island.

At the village you have some free time to explore on your own and have lunch in a local restaurant. Here the community speaks Quechua and has a waving tradition that dates back to early pre-Incan civilizations.

Later in the afternoon you will go back by boat to Puno where you will be brought back to your hotel.

At Lake Titicaca you are at quite a high altitude. This can cause altitude sickness, especially the first days. This is because there is a lot less oxygen in the air than at sea level and your body needs some time to adjust to that. Symptoms are mostly mild like: headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, trouble sleeping and trouble breathing during exercise. If you get these symptoms, they mostly go away after a few days.

What can you do about altitude sickness:

Take your time to acclimatize, take it easy the first days. It is better the first days not to do hard physical activities.

Drink lots of fluids like coca tea or water, but don´t drink alcohol or coffee.

You can buy small oxygen bottles (OxiShot) in many pharmacies in Cusco, in order to prevent or cure easily altitude sickness.

We strongly recommend you take a travel insurance going on vacation to Peru. Having a travel insurance will help you and avoid a lot of problems in case you need medical assistance or you lose your luggage for example.
